Artists Open Shop
The Artists Open Shop project began in 2009 when two Worthing artists, Hazel Imbert and Sarah Sepe opened a shop in the town centre to support the Open House initiative in the town. We opened for 2 weeks in the Guildbourne Centre in ‘The Kiosk’ a small unit in a great position near the the front of the centre. This was deemed to be a great success-record visitors were reported to the Open Houses and the shop became a meeting place for artists in the town where they were able to sell their art, work in public and talk to the customers.
Since then the shop has opened at Christmas and in the summer in a larger unit in the centre of the shopping centre and has become a welcoming venue for the artists and visitors. There has been a mixture of established and emerging artists, most either live in Worthing or are or have been Northbrook College students. When the shop is open, a series of workshops have been held in the shop, and there is also the possibility of studio space for use by interested artists.
Hazel and Sarah are both members of Angelico Textile Art group. Hazel is a founder member of Moving Stitchers a community based not for profit organisation. Sarah is studying at Chichester University for an MA in Fine Art and her practice incorporates drawing and printmaking with textiles.
